For me, the most inspiring interior design has a strong sense of place, a feeling of belonging, comfort and authenticity. This chemistry is created as a result of how spaces reflect their surroundings. This sense of place, can be achieved by embracing your surroundings for a more grounded and meaningful experience.
This appreciation, this connection with your environment can vary greatly; it often stems from childhood nostalgia, likewise it may be about history, geography, climate or an attraction to colours and textures. Or quite simply just ‘The Vibe’, the place is fun!

A mood board guides and focuses your attention.

Good design is about connecting with your audience, creating a sense of dialogue, it is about story telling. All the interior elements are interconnected in some way, the joy for me is connecting the dots. Never is this more so than in a commercial interior design scheme.

Chevron - Found engraved on ancient eastern Mediterranean pottery to early French embroidery and now, from flooring to fashion, this zig zag chevron pattern endures!
Fleur - de - lis - With French origins, particular embraced by royalty. This motif inspires from architectural decor to jewellery.
Tassels - From their ancient Egyptian beginnings, tassels represent in many cultures luxury and sophistication. Adorning blankets, furnishings and clothing. Tassels give movement to those more static objects.

The design process, looking for that initial creative spark or finding that one object, that will inspire you, whether a gin bottle, a painting, a piece of jewellery or a shop window, will ultimately influence your every direction.
